The Lesse kayak trip from Houyet is one of the most popular water activities in the Belgian Ardennes. The Lesse river winds through a spectacular valley of limestone cliffs and ancient forests, just a few kilometres from the famous Han-sur-Lesse caves. Every season, tens of thousands of kayakers set off from Houyet station, a charming Ardennes village on the banks of the Lesse.
This guide, written by Quentin Deligne, river hydrology expert and founder of Kayak Belgique, covers the three available routes, the 2026 prices from Dinant Evasion, the SPW (Walloon Government) regulations, and an objective comparison between the Lesse and the Semois to help you choose the right river for your trip.

Prefer the Semois? Discover our alternative
More affordable, quieter, National Park — the Semois is the river for those in the know.
For a full, sporty day, the Houyet–Anseremme trip (21 km, 5h) is ideal. For families with children, the Houyet–Gendron route (9 km, 2h, no dam) is recommended.
How much does a kayak cost in Houyet in 2026?
The 2026 prices from Dinant Evasion start at €27.50 per person (no-shuttle formula, 3-seat canoe) and rise to €43.00 (single Super Comfort All Inclusive). The classic double kayak All Inclusive is €32.50/person.
Is navigation on the Lesse allowed today?

What is the difference between kayak Houyet (Lesse) and kayak Semois?
The Lesse offers spectacular scenery with castles and dams but is very busy (up to 3,500 kayaks/day). The Semois, classified as a National Park (29,000 ha), is quieter (≈ 200 kayaks/day) and cheaper (from €26/person). Choose the Semois if you prefer wild nature and silence.
Do you need to book your kayak in Houyet well in advance?
Yes, in high season (July–August), the capacity of the Lesse is legally limited to 1,169 kayaks/day. Booking in advance is strongly recommended, especially for groups of 20 people or more.
